This picture recipe is an example of the types of recipes that are
used in our bakeries to teach people to bake. The activity is broken
down into steps and is accompanied by a photo or a drawing of the
product. The Job Coach may need to check each step before the worker
continues. These steps and pictures can be used to break down any recipe
that you have at home. Give it a try! Vocabulary words and phrases for this activity
White bread, bread flour, sugar, dry milk, salt, dry yeast, Crisco,
large mixer, beat, speed #1, 5 minutes, warm water, 110 degrees, pour
over, dry ingredients, mixer bowl, add to, 3 minutes, shut off, speed

Place Flour, Dry Milk, Sugar, Salt, Yeast, and Crisco in a
large mixer and beat at speed #1 for 6 minutes |

4 Cups Warm Water (110 degrees)
Pour over dry ingredients in mixer bowl. Beat 3 minutes at speed #1 |

Add to ingredients in large mixer |

Add to ingredients in large mixer.
Beat 3 minutes at speed #1 |

Shut off mixer, change speed to #2. Turn on mixer and beat
the dough for 3 minutes |

Shut off mixer, lower bowl, and unhook paddle. Place the
mixer bowl on the work table; remove the dough |

Shape the dough into a smooth ball.
Put the dough into a greased bowl and turn the dough over so the top is
greased.
Cover with film and let rest 1 hour. |

This recipe will make 4 loaves of bread. Divide the dough
into 4 sections, knead it, and shape it to a 9 inch lightly greased pan.
Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rise to double it’s size. Bake
at 400° for 18-20 minutes. Check with a thermometer for inside
temperature of 190°. |
