Mobile Work Crew Opportunities
The Mobile Work crews are a very active and important part of the maintenance teams of many businesses in Southeastern Connecticut. Churches, restaurants, marinas and libraries provide the setting for this popular vocational program. Each site provides a level of training that allows a person to grow at their own pace and attain the skills they desire. Crews of all abilities obtain jobs appropriate to their skill level, beginning with crews that were recently moved up from the Transitional Program all the way to the experienced crews practicing more specialized skills. Seabird’s Mobile Work Crews deliver trademark, dependability, and quality while providing steps to independence in the workplace for crew members.

All crews continue to develop skills in the basics of cleaning including washing windows, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and cleaning restrooms. The crews continue to work on special skills such as waxing and burnishing floors and shampooing carpets. The crews at the United States Coast Guard Academy have been applying state of the art floor maintenance products to keep the floors up to military specifications. The crews do some outdoor maintenance as well. This includes mowing, outdoor sweeping, leaf raking and light snow removal.

With all this work going on, there is still plenty of time for rest and a little fun. The crews enjoy daily breaks in the community at restaurants, convenience stores and parks. The crews regularly enjoy mobile crew picnics at Washington Park in Groton that include guests from other job sites.

Each crew has a weekly lunch out at a variety of restaurants. Regular lunches are enjoyed on site or at area parks where crew members can throw footballs and Frisbees, play hack ’n’ sack and soccer or just relax and enjoy the scenery. All crews continue to participate in activities outside of program hours.

The Mobile Work crews participate in many after work hour activities. Crews have gone to Norwich Navigator baseball games, U.S. Coast Guard Academy football games, basketball games and concerts. They have also attended picnics at local attractions such as Gillette’s Castle and Washington Park. There have been trips to the movies, plays and concerts throughout the community.
